Chapter 2 Dark Intentions Revealed
A few days later, the rain tapped softly against the tall glass windows.
Richard was away at an important business meeting in the city center.
Leo was playing quietly near the top of the grand staircase.
Victoria walked up the stairs with slow and quiet footsteps.
Her eyes fixed on the young child with deep anger.
Victoria: Why are you always standing in my way?
Leo looked up from his toys with wide and frightened eyes.
Leo: I am just playing with my cars, Victoria.
Victoria: You do not belong in this rich home anymore.
She stepped closer to him and grabbed his small upper arm tightly.
Leo tried to pull away from her strong grip.
Leo: Let go of me, you are hurting my arm!
Victoria: Nobody is here to protect you today, little boy.
Down in the foyer, Sarah heard the loud and harsh voices above.
She dropped her feather duster and ran toward the main hallway immediately.
She looked up and saw Victoria pulling the frightened boy toward the edge.
Sarah: Leave him alone right now, Victoria!
Victoria: Mind your own business and get out of my way!
Victoria grabbed Leo's shoulder and pulled him toward the top step.
Leo stumbled backward and lost his balance near the steep drop.
He cried out loudly as he began to slip toward the edge.
Leo: Help me, Sarah, please help me!
Sarah sprinted across the polished marble floor with incredible speed.
She knew she only had a few seconds to prevent a terrible tragedy.
Victoria watched cold-heartedly as the child struggled on the top step.
She did not reach out her hand to assist the slipping boy at all.
Instead, she stood there with a bitter sneer on her face.
Sarah reached the base of the stairs just as Leo slipped over the edge.
She stretched out her arms and caught the boy securely in her safe embrace.
The impact knocked Sarah to the floor, but she held Leo very tight.
Leo sobbed heavily against Sarah's warm coat.
Sarah: You are safe now, my brave little boy.
Leo: She tried to hurt me, Sarah!

Sarah stood up with the shaking child held safely in her arms.
Her eyes flared with pure righteous anger as she glared upward.
