Chapter 5 - VICTOR ADMITTED HE MISSED THE SIGNSVictor had spent years protecting himself from enemies.

Armored vehicles.
Guards.
Encrypted communications.
He still missed danger inside the nursery.
That humiliated him.
He told Lily:
“I should have known.”
She answered:
“You should have checked.”
He looked surprised.
She did not say:
It isn’t your fault.
Because some of it was.
Not Serena’s abuse.
That belonged to Serena.
But Victor had moved too quickly.
Elena died.
He grieved.
Then within a year he began dating Serena.
Beautiful.
Socially connected.
Comfortable around his world.
She made his life easier.
When Lily once said Ethan seemed unsettled after Serena stayed overnight, Victor answered:
“He needs to adjust.”
Lily remembered.
So did he.
That phrase bothered him now.
Adjust.
Adults love demanding adaptation from children when adults do not want to reconsider their own choices.
Victor said:
“I interpreted everything in the way that allowed the wedding to continue.”
“Yes.”
He nodded.
May you like
No defense.
Good.
