Chapter 6 - The Abandoned Factory

Arthur kicked the heavy steel door open, and we tumbled out into the dusty library basement.

We gasped for the warmer air, our muscles completely stiff from the freezing temperature of the vault.

The corrupt attorney was long gone, taking the only proof of my family's legacy with him.

But Arthur noticed a small, crumpled piece of paper dropped carelessly near the exit door.

It was a printed receipt from a private car service, showing a destination address on the industrial edge of town.

It was the address of the very first Whitmore manufacturing factory, a building that had been abandoned for years.

We climbed back out the broken window and practically flew into Arthur's sports car.

We sped across the sleeping city, the dark skyline blurring past us as we raced against the ticking clock.

We arrived at the massive, rusted gates of the old factory just as a heavy thunderstorm began to roll in.

Arthur parked the car blocks away, completely terrified that Margaret’s men would spot the headlights.

We crept through the tall, wet grass and slipped through a massive gap in the rotting chain-link fence.

The massive factory floor was dimly lit by a few portable industrial construction lights.

We hid behind a massive, rusted steel generator and peered out into the open space.

My parents were tied back-to-back on wooden chairs in the very center of the dirty concrete floor.

Margaret was standing in front of them, holding the yellow envelope and smiling with pure, victorious greed.

The corrupt attorney stood by her side, completely relaxed now that he thought we were freezing to death.

Margaret pulled a silver lighter from her pocket, preparing to burn the original blueprints right in front of my father.

She told him that his legacy was officially ending tonight, and his family would completely disappear by morning.

I clamped my hand over my mouth to stop myself from screaming out to them.

Arthur picked up a heavy metal bolt from the floor, preparing to throw it as a desperate distraction.

But before he could move, the massive bay doors of the factory violently exploded inward.

Two massive armored SUVs smashed onto the factory floor, completely surrounding Margaret and the attorney.

Eleanor Whitmore stepped out of the lead vehicle, holding an automatic rifle and flanked by a dozen heavily armed mercenaries.
